I think it depends on how you like to travel. You might end up spending the whole time running around to monuments, and don’t forget the couple days it will take to get over jet lag and adjust into the vacation mindset. I lived in Italy and would say 4 full days in Rome is probably enough to see all the major sites and still have some time to explore. With the day trips and travel to and from Naples and the airport (assuming you’re flying in and out of Fiumicino) you could probably afford to spend another couple days in and around Naples and maybe even get to Sorento. Personally some of the best times I’ve had traveling were when I just took an afternoon to wander around a neighborhood and find unexpected piazzas and cafes so I try not to pack every day fully when traveling. If you can do a week and a half I’d say do it! You’re gonna spend the time and money to get there anyways and have probably earned a well deserved vacation.

Yeah that’s fair. And to your point, that was what I loved about Italy: I felt like I just kinda strolled and explored. Unlike in other cities when I did that and felt like I missed out, in Italy I stumbled across some of the best finds that I still remember almost a decade later. I usually have us on a schedule for vacations but would rather take the European approach and chill. So maybe adding on 3 more days will help bring more of that vibe.

If you have already been to Rome why not spend longer on the amalfi coast? Just bookend your stay in Rome.

Because I let my SO pick out the cities in the itinerary given I’ve already been to Italy, he hasn’t ever been. Also we plan to go in the fall. I’d rather go to the Amalfi Coast in the spring/summer
