This is the most honest assessment I can give you:
Pros:
1) creative leadership is excellent
2) the head of design (Han) is amazing
3) the work is getting great on most accounts
4) some interesting clients
5) boring clients are doing good work for the first time
6) fun holiday parties
7) all the ECDs are nice, talented people you want to work for
Cons:
1) non-creative leadership is very mediocre and out of touch
2) agency is extremely understaffed
3) work-life balance used to be good (9-6 usually), but has gotten much worse, leadership isnt fixing it
4) culture is still very corporate
Grey has started to turn the corner to being a good creative agency again, but some of the old-school players may drag it back down. It’s better than most, but not the best in NYC.

Yeah youll make good work here. But like all nyc agencies right now, it can be turbulent.
That being said, the design team and our bigger clients (p&g, volvo, etc...) are fairly stable
It’s a big agency that’s a part of a big holding company. Some interesting accounts. Very little transparency from leadership and the company decisions often seem subject to WPP’s financial needs. Leadership can seem out of touch. Culture wasn’t that great even before the move to working remote with Covid. The agency is also very understaffed right now which is a significant problem. A ton of layoffs this year coupled with increasingly demanding clients has made for a deeply unpleasant work/life balance for a lot people in 2020.
Overall its not great, but Grey’s issues have been exacerbated by Covid and the shift to remote work. Hard to tell what the direction the agency will go in moving forward.
There is some stability at Grey with their bigger clients. Also, as Grey 2 noted below, Han and the design team are great.
Former Grey-er here. Above assessments are pretty accurate. +1 for Han bring amazing. -1 for it being “better than most.” Its very mediocre, but hey, I wouldn’t turn down a job anywhere in this economy.
From your above comments, it personally seems to me like it would be a good move for you!
Seconding others above in Han being a great leader and some good opportunities. Job stability wise, I think you’d be fine. I really can’t fathom them losing anyone on that team, they are in high demand.
Also not sure where you are now, but nyc isn’t the worst place to relocate to. So many people try to get here for years and never make it. Regardless of Grey, that alone is awesome for your career! Good luck!
