It was a rough search for me and my friend who clerks for a different COA judge in the same circuit. I thought it was me, but he went to a higher ranked school and his district court clerkship was in a more competitive district than mine. We both ended up with two offers and many, many rejections. Try to hang in there.
It is ROUGH out there. DJ clerk as well in a competitive market. I’ve been applying for 8 months while networking and applied for over 90 jobs. Thought I interviewed well with a bunch of firms but literally got no offers. Finally got an offer two weeks ago 😭
Congrats!! A job is a job!
Don’t think it’s better for COA clerks sadly
Lit boutiques seem to be the places that are still prioritizing judicial clerk hiring. They also offer much higher clerkship bonuses. I opted for a particular “big” firm for personal reasons, but the friend I mentioned went to a top boutique and will be making way more in his first few years.
It is tough out there. Many apps , many rejections. Hoping to get a few offers from lit boutiques
Came on here to see if anyone is talking about this. My co-clerk and I got, between us, ZERO cold interviews. Only interviews either of us were able to land were the result of a recruiter or a very strong personal reference. Three post-interview rejections for me so far, one of which was a real head-scratcher. Waiting to hear back from one big firm and am cautiously optimistic, but if that doesn't work not sure what my next move is since cold applying isn't getting me anywhere.
Only caveat is I haven't been applying to lit boutiques as much but also don't have firm experience besides a summer associateship. Maybe would have more luck there, but doubt it.
