I will admit to using chat GPT lately to craft cover letters that I then tweak on my own 🥹
Work smarter, not harder my friend 😁 I have been doing the same for some inspiration, making tweaks where I feel it’s needed. It’s the tool of the future, better start using it
I won’t apply anymore if a cover letter is required. Just a personal choice. After applying for over 300 jobs a couple of years ago and doing cover letters for about 20%, I got hired by a company that didn’t even require one. The cover letters took a ridiculous amount of time and all for nothing. Most companies didn’t even offer me an interview. From now on, I will skip any that require a cover letter or have a lengthy interview process unless the pay and benefits are much higher than other similar positions. It’s just not worth it.
Came here to share almost this exact same experience! Not worth the lengthy application process just to not get an interview when a shorter process resulted in an accepted offer.
I usually don’t add a cover letter because it’s so time consuming to create. When you’re applying to dozens of companies, putting in your experience and other personal information can take hours. I only attach one if it’s a job that I really really want and feel like I’m well qualified for. But I use an AI tool from Grammarly that pulls info from your resume and matches it with the job description to create the cover letter.
That ai tool sounds great! Will check it out
I’m waiting for Gen Z to kill the cover letter.
Not necessary, and I know some recruiters don't even bother reading them, but I include one every time anyway, just in case. Rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I wish I had the gift of prophecy so I could confidently not apply to jobs that have bad application processes and still get hired in a good position.
Cover letters usually suck, but they can be a good place for you to explain who you are in a way that a resume can't capture. I hate writing them, but I do think you're cutting out a significant chunk of open positions by simply ignoring the ones that require them.
I do ignore job postings that are opaque about the salary range or that require lengthy work before an interview even takes place.
Not mecessary, but it cant hurt to add one if theres a field for it on the application. If there isnt, dont bother!
I don’t think cover letters are necessary. My applications with cover letters didn’t hold any weight, and I’ve been told by many of my teachers that I’m a great writer. I think I conveyed my experience very well and showed interest in the company and how I could make an impact well. I don’t think they read them 99% of the time.
If an application requires a cover letter I just submit my resume again. 🙃
Never used it
I hate cover letters and am convinced that most employers don’t even read them but if it’s a requirement for a job I want then of course I’ll write one
I use my cover letter as a space for an introduction to who I am beyond the resume. Its mostly cut and paste. If I am actually enthusiastic about applying somewhere I usually put in some more effort.
Don’t think it’s necessary, some companies demand it though..
But the more I apply, the more I start thinking that people aren’t looking at it… at all!
Ha.

I always do one, may not be necessary, but I think to not include one could be perceived as lazy.

I am not applying for anything but the best job.

I personally don’t, but I also struggle with job searching so who knows 😂 I also don’t read CVs when interviewing candidates 🫣
As a hiring manager, I appreciate a cover letter only if it is attention-grabbing and short. Sifting through applications is about as much fun as submitting them, so the ones that are easy to read and to the point tend to get my attention first.
I pay a lot of attention as a hiring manager to cover letters. You’re a marketer. Why would you want to give up an opportunity to market yourself?

I just find the talent acquisition team on LinkedIn and send a note to connect stating my interest in the open role. It works more times than not.
