Plenty of partners moving down the top 100 list as a landing spot, or going private. It sounds like the partner is telling you that there may be more people than spots available and you may end up deferred a year.
You def want to come into the partnership from a position of strength but if you have an opportunity for Jan 27 then you take it, otherwise it may not be there the following year.
As long as you’re jumping to something versus from something, you are fine.
What do you all consider to be a solid pipeline? I ask because I know of a new partner who had what we all thought was pipeline from an ongoing 3 year engagement. 3 months after they made partner, the client decided to stop paying the firm and cancelled the contract. Therefore is there ever such a thing as a solid pipeline and if so, what constitutes solid?
Thank you Partner 2 that's really helpful. This new partner seemed to have been handed a "book of work". Im not sure how much of a role they played to win the work. Your definition therefore makes sense and will keep it in mind as I demonstrate the pipeline I have
What P2 said. It’s always good to enter into a partnership with 2 years of solid pipeline. Never tag on someone’s coattails early on. Someone invested their political capital on you, don’t let them down.
