Are there any questions should I ask my vet for at dog’s annual wellness? My dog is now considered a senior. This is the first dog I’ve ever had, so everything is new to me. I’m going to ask what additional supplements is recommended and if food needs to be switched to senior food. I don’t know what else and want to be prepared for the annual check up.

I would look up common issues for the breed(s) and make sure those are checked out. I have a cavalier do I make sure his heart is listened to very well because almost all of them get MVD at some point.

A thorough dental examination and assessment! Crucial to stay on top of dental health at every age, but especially so as our friends approach and enter their golden years. Neglecting dental health in our pets can quite literally prove disastrous, from a health perspective, of course, as well as a financial one in the blink of an eye.

Your flea/tick/heartworm preventative will also take on increasing importance, so make sure to request a renewed prescription if you’re needing it! Alongside any updated vaccinations/boosters that doggo may be due for 🙂

General Health & Aging

Weight & body condition: Is my dog at a healthy weight, or should we adjust diet/exercise?

Mobility: Do you see any signs of arthritis or joint issues? Would joint supplements help?

Dental health: How are their teeth and gums? Is a professional cleaning recommended?

Vision & hearing: Are there any signs of decline I should watch for?

Nutrition & Supplements

Is it time to switch to a senior diet, or should I stay with the current food?

Are there specific supplements you recommend (e.g., omega-3s, glucosamine, probiotics)?

Are there foods or ingredients I should avoid now that my dog is older?

Preventive Care

Are vaccines still all necessary, or should any be adjusted at this age?

Should we do bloodwork, urinalysis, or other senior screening tests this year?

Do you recommend heartworm, flea, and tick prevention year-round for my dog’s lifestyle?

Should we be doing regular blood pressure checks?

Lifestyle & Comfort

How much exercise is appropriate for my dog’s age and breed?

Are there ways to make my home more comfortable (ramps, orthopedic bed, nonslip rugs)?

What are signs of pain or discomfort that I might miss?

Early Warning & Monitoring

What changes in appetite, water intake, or bathroom habits should I report immediately?

Are there specific breeds/size-related health risks I should watch more closely for?

What is an appropriate schedule for senior checkups—annually or every 6 months?

S/he is beautiful!
I’d add change of food for a senior dog- is it needed and brand suggestions

Ask if you should bring your dog in more than one time each year (my dog just turned 16). I am accustomed to having blood panels run once each year, but if you ask about it, they may run the blood work unnecessarily due to your concern. Just ask your vet what they recommend.

Thank you all so much!

Has anyone else's dog have had bacterial infections on the skin with little patches of bald spots? I've already gone to the vet and went through a round of antibiotics which helped, but he's getting them again. I use an antiseptic spray on the bald spots. He's a middle/sr bulldog. Wondering if it's just his immune system as he's getting older?? He's not rolling around in a dog park or anything

About two months ago. They examined the spots. I don't remember them sending out labs

Hello! If you had to choose from the following two options, which would you select:

- Application already submitted, results by end of Feb

- George Mason's part-time program (ranked #4 in US, 4yrs): Graduate with 20K in debt (with the possibility of it being $0 debt)
- Application not yet submitted, but thinking about applying ED to a program that offers full tuition scholarship. Deadline: Mid-Jan

What are your strategies for completing work efficiently? How do you figure out how long projects should take? A consistent piece of feedback on my yearly reviews has been that I over-bill & spend too much time on assignments. It’s something I actively work on, but I still have no concrete sense of how long I should spend on basic tasks (e.g., drafting a motion to dismiss). My firm is right to expect that I manage my time better as a mid-level associate. WFH has made my time management worse.
