Even if the us backslides in sustainability efforts, with the new European reporting standards and other pressures from countries that many US companies do business in, I don't think that sustainability goals will disappear. I fear they might slow down, but not disappear.
This. Also, states like CA will maintain high standards that have to be met and investor action will also keep up momentum.
Nah. The market will correct. Same thing happened when Trump came in 2016 and pulled out of Paris and other things - everybody started self-enforcing.

It literally doesn’t matter who wins the next election in the US. The US government is the same no matter who wins. If you really want change you have to lobby congress. You pay for change. Whoever has the most money wins.
I have a company that has built ESG tracking and reporting software, no plug here, but I’m obviously quite involved in this topic.
Clearly the US is behind a lot of the world on this topic, but as others have said, through EU or CA ties most will still need to report. Remember, the EU will require private equity groups and banks to track financed emissions as part of scope 3, so that’s going to include a ton of US companies.

Same as usual. Only impact is if you work for the EPA or other environmental government org.
I agree, for most part. Especiallly with SEC reporting requirements, the companies have to keep reporting on ESG.
I think the focus will shift to climate solutions and operations where companies are not just reporting but working on reducing carbon.

Eu and CA refs are much more impactful. SEC decision was already halted by a court and is facing multiple lawsuits. It will likely go to the Supreme Court who will probably reverse it.
