Asking for a friend, who has been assigned a ‘development plan’ at RBC. Is there anyone who has a positive experience about it? Or should he start looking for an exit and an opportunity elsewhere?

Do you mean a PIP? Performance Improvement Plan?

No, they are calling it development plan.

Is the development plan and PIP same?

Can you provide more context? Like how did this plan become a reality? What is the cadence of meeting and what is it addressing?

Answered below

The manager felt that the new team member needs some more training and has assigned some courses and 1 task which needs to be completed . Upon asking more they mentioned they are not happy with the performance judging based on some things said in the stand up alone and not the actual work performed ( this is a whole different situation). The manager also mentioned they would meet weekly and discuss about this development plan , but hasn’t set any meetings as of yet . So the employee is confused and doesn’t know if they are supposed to take initiative and set it up or just wait

This is a performance improvement plan, the employee should take as much initiative as possible. If they do not prove to their manager that they can overcome whatever deficiency they are perceived to have, at the end of this exercise they will be given additional warnings and training. Ultimately this is not a good thing because it could lead to termination without cause

Its legit useless. They will promote people if they favorite them. I have seen people take this crap from them and stay in the same role. When ever you get asked questions like “We are here to support you even if you want to join other teams, let us know !??” Don’t fall for it. In the name of development plan few managers (toxic) just want to know your personal plan of action. Beware. Few managers are good. It is for you to spot. You know them well.

Pivoting away from Sales: I’ve been in sales positions for 15 years, and I’m just exhausted by the role (disputing commissions, arguing about deals, all of it). Interviewed for a GS-15 (same agency but different office) and totally aced the interview with excellent answers. They know I’m a top performer with senior references. However I noticed there was an internal candidate who has been there for few years and interviewed that’s a veteran. I feel my chances just sank and want to gauge thoughts.
