Walaikum as Salam - a few recommendations:
1. Stay at a hotel with kitchen facilities - residence Inn, etc.
2. Shop in advance for meal prep - boil/bake vs fry
3. If team dinners are in the mix - join after breaking your fast - do dinners at a restaurant vs eating in even if eating alone - bring back left overs or order a second entree for the morning
4. Drink lots of water
I usually end up eating during the day or at airport to prevent added physical stress.
I also travel across time zones, and often cross continent so really can’t follow “fast times” .
In the end comes down to prioritizing my personal health and well being over fasting.
1. Find halal spots close to your hotel / workspace. See if they’re on DoorDash/grubhub/other delivery services so you can get food delivered in advance of iftar
2. Order extra for dinner so you can eat some for suhoor or pick up something from grocery store if you want a proper breakfast (e.g., peanut butter and bread can survive outside for a few days)
3. Also call and ask your hotel what time breakfast starts. With clocks springing forward chances are you can order breakfast the night before to arrive in time for suhoor
4. Lastly (on food), many hotels will provide a mini fridge / microwave on request
5. You can try to find a mosque for taraweeh if interested. I did when traveling to larger cities and was able to find something within a 10 min uber ride. but understand that may not be an option in most parts of the US
Depends on location, i usually fast start fasting the longest possible time, just to be safe. I.e. when traveling from nyc to la, i start fasting with nyc time (meaning do suhur) and iftar with la time.
Depends on the place, Houston has a lot of places, so you should look for places to go for iftar, closest mosques for taraweeh, also if you are not sure always carry something with you, i.e. dates to break fast. I try to also look for college friends, colleagues that i can invite for iftari, regardless of their religion. I do not usually invite people from my project but if they come i always tell them this is the time for iftar /dinner. As for suhur depends on location, when i am in SF i get carried away and have in-n-out otherwise a fruit and date does it for me.
Appreciate the answers everyone! Lucky enough to find a hotel with a kitchen down the street from client office Alhamdulilah.
