Sounds like you don’t exactly fit what they want/need, they aren’t sure yet what they need, or the work is not sold yet and is still being scoped. Nothing really unusual.
We’re going through a fair amount of turmoil here. We’re hiring in hot skills/markets, however are re-evaluating areas that are not growing as quickly as we’d like. Depending on what LoS/area of focus you’re in, that may be a contributing factor to what you’re experiencing.
Not at PWC but from experience elsewhere, sounds like you were a fit but they want someone more experienced and are looking internal at someone. So I’d say you’re out of the running for this one but sounds like they’d pull you for a similar role if one arises.
They like you as an individual but unfortunately not the best fit for whatever role is available. Just keep in touch with them and maybe they will eventually find something that’s the right fit for you.

OP - What level are you interviewing for? Is it Advisory?

If you are interviewing for Manager or above, there is a lot more scrutiny to make sure we have the right candidate and experience. It sounds like they may be looking for a more experienced resource for this role but you never know, they may reach out to you later. Good luck!
