I’m on bench since I got hired in mid-Feb...
That depends on level and cycle. For people focused on sales, being on the bench for a while until a sale is made is common, regardless of hiring cycle. For individual contributor roles hired on cycle (undergrad and MBA hires who all start August 1), there are sometimes a few stragglers because the pipeline doesnt boom on August 1 alongside the growth in headcount, but they usually start blending into the pool after a month or 2. Off cycle senior consultant and manager hires often have a project lined up for them already, so extended bench time after joining is unusual unless the project they were hired for fell through at the last second.
No telling what might happen with Corona though. With so many clients pausing or delaying work, long bench times for new hires will be common.
Panicking is usually the best course of action in any situation.
