London has similar WLB to the US. Germany comes in second following by Switzerland. All other countries are chill. I’m in the Nordics and work with folks across Europe.
Pro
Not quite accurate for BCG. Milan, Madrid, Moscow do not fit your description of being chill. Tough office in Europe is way worse than NAMR.
That said, Amsterdam is great for WLB by any standard.
Can’t say about BCG but at Bain, Amsterdam had a far far better WLB compared to London. Know this from a couple of friends
In terms of WLB, London and Amsterdam are in the same ‘system’ so there’s a lot of staffing between the offices. If on an Amsterdam case, WLB may be better, but if on a London case, it’s slightly worse (still not as bad as what I’ve heard for Germany, Italy, Spain)
Pro
Same system, but local staffing is still proritized. Comp is a office thing. It's even different currency. No easy way to keep the exact same salaries even if we want to.
Amsterdam better in WLB vs London, but gap getting closer in most areas (London trying to improve). Opportunities better in London, also brand new office which is a perk.
If you’re an experienced hire, any industry focus could be a reason for picking one or the other. Generally, London serves most industries, Amsterdam more specific areas. Happy to DM!
Thanks!
