Been offered last minute work yet again and I felt like I had to except it! I’m going on holiday on Sunday and now I’m working till Saturday! It was my first day yesterday and I felt so tired afterwards! How do you know when to say no to these situations?

Do you know why you felt like you had to say yes? I know sometimes it’s definitely the company or boss pressure, but sometimes it’s just ourselves feeling guilty. I’ve had to take a step back from accepting everything because my home life was suffering.

I think I expect too much for myself!

Oof, I’m so sorry. I wouldn’t work past Friday. I’d let them know what you were able to complete by the end of the workday, and outline any next steps someone else on the team will need to pick up while you’re on your planned, approved vacation. Don’t work over the weekend when you already have plans.

I’m sorry :( Did it all work out though?

I don't ever work overtime unless it is going to benefit me (I need the money) or I have something I absolutely have to get done. Other than that, I really value work-life balance. The more you practice saying no, the easier it becomes.

Yes I try to value it but I find it difficult to say no!

Looking for insights and chit chat on the topic —>

Would love to get insight from folks here as I’m not quite sure what to do. I currently have around 14K in student loan debt and enough saved up to pay it off in one fell swoop. What I’m struggling with is whether I should invest that money into the stock market (thinking less risky S&P 500 ETF) and pay off my student loans monthly with the average payment being around 1000 so I can pay it off in about 16-18 months (due to interest being around 5%) or pay it off all in one go?
