I’ve heard good things about Baker Botts but it’s all anecdotal.

Focusing only on AM 100 I would say Baker Botts and Locke Lord but I agree with the other associate that I'm unsure how the Troutman merger will impact LL's culture.

If you go out to the AM 200 there's Bracewell. My understanding is they pay scale but they do have a bit of a fratty culture.

To me the king of wlb practice in Texas is Jackson Walker. But the rub is they don't pay scale.

A6, I’ve heard theirs has a partner who was inappropriate with an associate and when she reported it she was moved to another group and then told her hours were low if you get my drift. Nothing actual happened to that other partner. I don’t know how true this is but I’ve heard nothing good about that firm from penalizing associates who don’t meet their hours (despite being told that it’s fine throughout the year) to some gross behavior. Also didn’t they have the one partner or something that was sleeping with a bankruptcy judge or something like that?

like

I would say Locke Lord, but with the Troutman merger I’m not sure what to expect going forward.

Funny to hear BB mentioned here because they were always extremely up tight and formal. That said I think the firm has gone through a lot in recent years and that may have spawned some changes.

like

It’s the only law firm I’ve consistently heard good things about from my friends and law school buddies who work there. So, they just be doing something right.

People say great things about HB, but my experience there was not great.

like

I had a good experience at HB, but did not work with anyone in the Dallas office.

I’ve had good WLB at NRF

Niche practice area - good, supportive team to help step in as needed

Polsinelli is well regarded for culture and WLB

like

Half jokey answer, but Willkie Farr. Only because they are in rebuild mode right now. Hours very light

Blank Rome

This is very dependent on the practice group in my experience. For example, our IP group is on the relaxed end of the spectrum, while corporate tends to be more uptight and demanding. Which groups are you asking about?

I'll share my experience and urge you to share yours:

Since iOS 14 changes, Facebook ads isn't the same anymore. Why?

A. >75% iOS users denied tracking. They are no longer tracked across websites/apps. Facebook lost its edge.
B. Targeting and conversion tracking aren't as effective anymore.
C. Many advertisers have been migrating their budgets from Facebook to Apple and Amazon ads.

What's your experience? Let's all learn.

So the question has been asked a few times in the main Big Law bowl but keeps getting derailed into a political issue. As someone with a more conservative disposition anyway I'm interested in the day to day of life and work in Texas as opposed to NYC (or similar).

So, what are the pros and cons of living in Texas and working in Texas Biglaw?

I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI. Thus far, he’s landed interviews with (all in Houston): Baker Botts, Sidley Austin, Kirkland, Winston Strawn, Reed Smith, Norton Rose, and Locke Lord. Also Perkins Coie in Dallas. He’s leaning transactional, but also open to litigation. Any insights/advice on these firms in the TX market? Any to avoid?
