You don’t need a lawyer. A good CPA or accountant can do the job just fine and faster. This is more about taxes and write offs than anything else.

There’s LegalZoom, ZenBusiness.. they all do the same. You just need the bare minimum.

A lawyer will do the same.. as the bullet point above.

W2 = you’re a (temp) employee
W9 = you’re you’re own boss. This is the route you want to go. You can ask for a bit more $.

This bowl has a bunch of threads on the differences.

Legal Zoom is a good place to start.

Note: you still may want to hire a lawyer, but it’s a good place to help you start understanding the basics.

Just started the process on LegalZoom. Following

I am a Chartered accountant and truth be told given the current times CA is a really low incentive education any potent person can get. Worth sticking out to see or jumping to go in house at a pre-IPO, late stage startup you find super exciting and interesting?

Additional Posts in WFH Freelancers

Just got word that I didn’t get a gig I was excited about for 48 hours. Freelancing is like a drug. High from the email asking your availability. Low if it doesn’t go through.

Need Advice:

An agency I’ve gotten a lot of work from reached out about a five-week gig. After I accepted, it was downgraded to two weeks.

Since, the KO meeting has been pushed back twice, a week total, so the project is starting a week after the initial email agreement. They’re not paying for the time I’ve been waiting.

On the one hand, it’s been slow and I don’t have a competing offer, (actual leverage). On the other hand, it’s disrespectful of my time.

What would you do?
