Just handle the situation well on both sides and you will be fine. Don’t burn bridges.
Yes, you’re fine. Tell the Partner that you love the firm but your long term goal is aligned better with the company He’ll be supportive
No. But you should always assume word will make it back to D and be prepared for how to respond if that’s the path you go down.
Get a written offer from client first. That’s the advice I’ve read multiple times here & been told by others
Btw, so much of these responses totally ignore the original question...
Your partner is not just going give you up because they like you. This is a transaction
I'm a consultant in Analytics Advisory, so BTA in DC. My comp matches BTA comp and client offered more than double
You cannot get fired over this. I have seen plenty of similar cases at multiple level. We are in people business where relationships cannot be ruined for one resource (not that you are not important). Given the pay raise, it is worth it. You can always come back to consulting with more depth in the subject matter. Good luck!
Client is very interested, and so am I. They want to approach Deloitte saying it was mutual interest. Will that make me screwed. Partner on the project likes me a lot and already knows they're interested
There are clauses in MSAs, or whatever your firm specifically calls it, that protects your firm against this. Proceed with caution as your client will be violating this agreement. Your client should also be ready to bend over to Deloitte’s demands if they agree to this
That's 100% true. I'm not oblivious to the situation. I'm just saying I know he will not be spiteful. Sabotage is not the same as willingly give up. Again, head of client group said there is no MSA restriction, but to move forward they don't want to make it look like they're just outright poaching talent. Want it to be mutual
M1- that’s never enforced. Would be stupid for Deloitte to end the relationship over 1 employee. It’s good for the firm for an employee to go to a client because it’s one more connection that can bring more work to the firm from that client. This came up during engagement letter negotiations, and out client asked if it could be removed. The partner laughed and said that we would never enforce it.
Also it is a data science position in a top 5 bank
This is very common. At junior levels Deloitte doesn’t care and actually it’s encouraged (someone on the inside that knows how to work with consultants). I see it happen once or twice a year. Just make sure the client is serious and not blowing smoke (also very common).
Yeah M3, agree completely and 100% on that when it comes on paper
Not if you’re billing
I don’t believe there is no clause in MSA, the MSA is pretty standard in Deloitte, especially for core terms. However, the client should talk directly to your partner, if Deloitte gets good business from the client and there is more potential revenue pending, he might be willing to negotiate over your move. Especially in the scenario you are interested.
Thank you SM and D3 for the on subject responses. Exactly the kind of information I'm looking for. I know it is common, but have no idea how it is received
States that you can work for clients in what way? As consultants, that could be interpreted in quite a few ways.
You’re obviously worried about getting fired for this, so here’s some advice:
Unless you’re an attorney that specializes in employment law and employment contracts, pay a lawyer *in your state* for a couple of hours of their time to review your employment agreement.
It seems really unlikely they would fire you - you could pretty quickly turn into a pissed off client?
