Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.
They then admittedly gave the offer to someone who was less qualified. There were other red flags throughout the job offer process that the HR team should overall be ashamed of.
Disney Streaming Services I completed my interview process with DSS early last week, and was reached out by recruiter that all rounds were strong hires, and they are extending an offer. We set a time to talk on Friday about the offer. However, the announcement of targeted hiring freeze happened on Friday. I was ghosted with no call. What should I expect now? Would I still have chance to be offered?

Notice is not required in the USA when leaving "employee at will" positions; the same rules that allows companies to fire you at any time without notice or reason also gives you the ability to quit at any time without giving notice. It is a common curtesy to give 2 weeks, and your boss can ASK for more, but they cannot demand you stay.
The only exception is if you have a contract that stipulates otherwise.
Tell your boss you are leaving in a week. If he insists you to stay longer, offer to work as a consultant at a generous hourly rate.
(Companies hypocrites when it comes to employment laws. They like the "Employee at Will" law because it gives them most of the power... but then they complain about people job-hopping and quitting without notice, things that are a direct result of those laws.)
Most legit companies in the US also expect to wait at least 2 weeks for their new hires. It's a red flag to me that this new job is not willing to do so....but that's just me with over 20 years in the professional workforce. Two weeks notice is enough to not burn a bridge unless your contract or the on-board paperwork you signed says differently.
Yes you can. Obviously two weeks is preferred but not mandatory. You are doing them a favor by staying not the other way around. At the end of the day you need to do what is best for you OP.
It is CUSTOMARY to give the same notice for how often you're paid, i.e. paid every week, give one week notice; however, you can leave whenever you want. That is the meaning of working AT-WILL. Conversely, the company can lay you off without notice whenever they choose.
Worst case scenario, what are they going to do? Fire you?
You don't have to give notice at all. I've had employees call me from their new desk at their new job to tell me that they didn't work for me any more.
You can do whatever you want. 2 weeks is the quote unquote standard. Provide less than 2 weeks notice and they can mark you ineligible for rehire. You can also say no to anything longer than 2 weeks and this should still allow you to remain eligible for rehire. This is business standard.
The two week notice is a courtesy. If they employer was letting go, they would do it immediately. In my opinion and like others say, rewrite the notice and let them now it's immediate seperation (period)
It's pretty much the standard to give 2 weeks notice, but there's nothing saying that you have to give that much notice or that you actually have to work it. However, don't really plan on using them in the future as a reference. If that doesn't matter to you, then leave after the 1 week. There is nothing that they can do except wave good-bye to you on your way out the door.
Unless stated in a contract you signed upon joining the company, you can give 1 minute notice if you wanted to. It's not like they can shackle you to a desk and refuse to let you leave.
You don’t have to give them any notice. Most states are a work at will for both employer and employee.
Thank you for the responses . Finally I came out as per the date which I wanted earlier but my termination is not approved in the system . But HR involved and solved to get the smooth transition.
They can’t make you come back it’s. Strong arm tatic
Look at the paperwork from when you hired on. If nothing is written in the offer letter look at the employee handbook (contract paperwork if that applies). A few companies I have worked for require a two week (10 business day) notice to leave or you risk losing certain benefits. They may also put you on a do not hire list. Can they make you stay? no. can they with hold certain benefits? Possibly. If you put in a written notice with an end date of two weeks but management rejected it then they cannot claim you didn't give notice in time (unless you didn't follow some rule in the employee handbook). If you are a foreign national on a work visa then make sure to double check paperwork.
The standard notice time is 2 weeks. However, it is not against any law to give less.
All employment in the USA is at will
You can leave evensame day but it's bad practice to do so of you wish to be polite it's 2 weeks
However don't loose put on great opportunities to be polite
Tell them you gave them three weeks, but fedex seemed Hesitant to send them their tracking number.
I turned in three weeks notice to a prior company to help them out. My boss turned around and let me go first week. Do not do your company any favors. One week is fine. Think of this, if they fired you, would they give you a three week notice. Probably not.
You can quir with or without notice. But realize a couple things: Your new company will know how much noticce you gave by the comany you are leaving answers. They can not legally badmouth you. But a work around for eomployers is- would they hire you back? if the answer is no. That doesnt look good. also- give your notice in writing and date it to when you gave your notice. take a photo of it before you turn it in. They can not force you do work 3 weeks. You can walk off the job with a 2 minute notice- unless your position is suc that you cant legallly do that.
I am sure most states are “employment at will”. Thry can get rid of you for any reason no reprecussion but yku can do the same to them.
You cannot be forced to complete any period of notice. All it does is says they will not rehire you. I would also advise that if you are still job shopping that you do not use them as a reference, Experience yes, reference no.
Screw em. If you did something to warrant termination would they say you are terminated in two weeks? Look out for #1
You can give 0 hours notice. That is, you can quit immediately. We have employment at will, unless you have a contract that says otherwise. Talk to your HR department. They will know the company rules and the local laws.
