Pro: get paid more
Con: lots and lots of red tape, rules and regulations you need to follow, less creatively stimulating work
Pro - more money, stable work and much easier to get a job there than at a more fun creative shop.
Con - for creatives, if you didn’t like advertising before, you will hate your life working at a pharma shop. For the most part, there is no creativity. Look at the spots and even look at the logos and branding. All cookie cutter, check the boxes for legal work.
If advertising and creative isn’t something you are passionate about and need a paycheck, not a bad place to work while you plan for life out of work.
PROS:
Stabler/Steadier work & job security.
Better pay
Less diva-ish, for the most part.
Working on truly life-changing products.
Making your mark in an industry corner that’s got more & more potential for growth
CONS:
Regulatory limitations (this can be viewed as a pro by some creatives who will challenge themselves even further to make the work great)
Can’t really post your work, even after it’s produced, and/or awarded.
Working on truly life-changing products... under Big Pharma.
The categories can get pretty heavy (working on cancer patient journeys Vs cookies and beer inspo)
From the pharma/healthcare fields including DME, insurance, and pharma, the contract jobs were more lucrative but it felt like if you stepped out of line even as a perm employee, you were out. Pharma and healthcare aren’t going anywhere anytime soon and I’m finding a lot of contract and permanent positions within but it’s incredible competitive.
Pros: dollars in salary, travel, perks, working with smart people and learning a lot about healthcare and pharma in general
Cons (especially for creatives): very restrictive legal implications, seldom chance to truly "write" or develop new messaging, often difficult to nail advantages with competitors in the same category
Rising Star
Pros:
Cons: it’s stuffy, slow, academic, and nobody gives a shit about creative or doing anything new or interesting.
