Would you say being a partner is more demanding than being an industry exec?

Currently a big 4 partner and was a c-suite industry executive before consulting. Prior to industry was a partner in a boutique.

Consulting is more demanding day in and day out. The grind of selling every engagement, the travel, drain on the family, is much harder in consulting.

That said, industry politics are far more difficult than consulting. Always playing the angles with other executives, board, etc.

Also, in industry, the decisions are yours. As consultants, if our recommendations don’t work it’s the implementation, or the client, or some other reason. In industry, if a call doesn’t work out, it’s on you.

Industry is more challenging intellectually and politically.. however Consulting can be more challenging personally

I’m an SM - and both are demanding in completely different ways. Both have targets to achieve but challenges are diff. I doubt either of them have any less stress
