Client meetings are the worst. Hearing about another accident, another life ruined...the emotional toll stacks up. How do you all compartmentalize?

I try to look at it as this is my job and this is business, not personal. However, everyone has their own Achilles heel on cases that bother them more. Your feelings are valid. You just have to remove yourself from it as much as you can emotionally or it will eat you alive. You also might try meeting with a therapist to help with how to comparmentalize/cope with the demands of working in this field. Hope this helps!

My firm typically does insurance defense, but we take plaintiffs cases here and there. Is it typical that work done by associates on contingency cases isn’t counted toward their billable hour requirements unless and until we receive our fee on the case? This is my first experience with this, but it’s hard for me to reach my hours as is, without spending time on non billable cases like this with no assurance that I’ll see billable credit at the end.
