If you’re an associate there’s no point in worrying about this now. You don’t have the experiences yet to know if it is worth it or not. You will in time and can make that decision
The compensation absolutely justifies the journey. In y3 currently. Y2 comp was 2x what I made in final year as a SM.
The challenge is in assessing readiness but more importantly the external factors which could prevent someone from getting there sometimes out of our control.
About 8 years into my career and about to take an exit for a couple of years into industry. I’m assuming it won’t impact any potential to make partner later down the road if/when I come back to consulting? That’s been my goal but some changes have been happening that I need to shift with. I’ve had great reviews over the years so I’m hoping that I can continue that going forward.
I guess the better question is how much do you need a year to make it worth it for you?
