He stated verbatim "Do you think I get direction from my ELT?" And I succinctly responded "As an Associate Director you should be getting some direction from ELT" - he weaponized his collaboration with other PM teams and basically asserted that we haven't intuited the right people to ask for help laterally and that's our fault. He told our administrator during this conversation that she was only doing 20% of her job which is categorically false. This hire was framed as "mature" by senior leadership. I'm not sure if I should be returning to this employer - at minimum I need to take PTO. In my opinion this has become a hostile environment - but I really would like some advice.
There can be a line between getting some direction and being self-sufficient. It honestly sounds to me like this person has some bad personal experience and is making everyone else suffer for it. The whole thing sounds odd to me, but every company can be run differently.
Sounds very toxic! Setting people up to fail instead of giving guidance.
