Confusing the CSR with Amex plat. Amex plat gets this benefit
Pro
P1 I was thinking the same thing cuz of how OP phrased the first paragraph.
Regardless, for flights, for CSR, you get 5x through Chase portal and 3x through airline websites (as a normal "travel" category). For Plat, you get 5x on both Amex portal and airline websites.
Booking through third-party can be a huge pain when irrops happen or even just changing your flight. Changing, refunding your ticket would require you to go through Chase/Expedia/third party which can sometimes be extremely annoying and the rules are usually stricter.
I’ve seen the portal occasionally has a higher price compared to booking directly with the airline
You’re correct - the portal doesn’t always have the best deals
the 5x is a recent change so that’s why a lot of advice is still to book direct
Do we still get 3x on flights booked through airlines using the CSR?
Yes, all travel booked anywhere gets 3x points for CSR. It's why I prefer it over Amex Plat and CO Venture X.
I've heard rewards portal is usually more expensive/fees, plus harder to change flights if needed. I heard with flights you still get separate points from the airline, but with hotels you do not get hotel rewards points
*No points + no progress on status for hotels
