Currently in PI litigation. I love everything about plaintiff PI work that is done pre-suit but I dread anything related to litigation. I’ve considered transitioning to another area of law but after 5 years of only practicing PI law, I am worried I will struggle to find a transactional job at my pay level that is willing to take the time to train me. has anyone else had this experience?

Currently working as product owner with a tier 2 Product organisation with a CTC of 33 lpa and company is quite stable and old. Just got an offer of 48 from a series B funded startup in AI, is worth taking risk ? My yoe is 10 years in Product management.

1st yr at a nyc v50 firm doing general transactional work. I know the lateral market for transactional lawyers is hot but not as hot for juniors. I just want a change of scenery because my current firm is bleeding good associates / not giving great training imo / and just seems small. Would lateralling this early feasible? I’m a Senior BSA/AML/Fraud Analyst at a regional bank, 100% remote, have bachelor’s degree in business, 6 YOE in my field, TC is about $60k, & I live in KY. I am finishing up my second year of practice as a lawyer. I transitioned to plaintiffs pi work from a boutique commercial litigation firm. I like the work and not having to bill. The issue I am having is managing volume. I have about 150 active files some pre-lit and the rest are in litigation. Cases range in value from very small to low six figures. I also take the driver seat for the grunt work on the firms bigger cases which are at or near 7 figure value. I constantly feel (cont.)

First PI case. Just got defendant’s discovery back. I asked for all policies to see any potential coverage and was just sent back the 2-page dec page. Is that normal? What is my response/objection to this?

As a former Corporate Counsel, now mostly solo practitioner in Federal Court specialty practice is a mixture of Bankruptcy, Immigration, Business Transactions and Employment law.
My question is could I affiliate "of counsel" on part of my practice like say only Employment Law?

What’s a good LA or NY business litigation firm and salary to expect? I’m a 2yr with quite frankly a lot of experience across civ rights, PI, excessive force, wrongful death, employment defense, K dispute, corp. structure dispute, professional licensure. Write every kind of brief, appeals, argue motions, take depos. Am the only associate working directly under partner on all cases. In house or M&A/Real Estate Transactional are likely the end goal but want to get the litigation out of me first.

I’m a 3rd year Associate at a fairly large injury firm. In my 2nd year my individual fees were $550k, this year I’ll eclipse $800k and next year I have $1.5mm or more lined up. (That’s just cases I signed/closed myself)
I’m the sole associate in the office, and also handle most of the training/marketing/networking in my office. My salary isn’t 6 figures and no performance incentive. At what point is it fair to ask/is it unrealistic or unreasonable to ask for some small performance incentive?

What do you guys send as gifts to referral sources for attorneys and/or former client referral sources?

Currently at a medium sized firm but want to make the jump to big law - doing Plaintiffs PI and just need some advice on how to make myself more attractive to larger firm.

I’m currently discontent with my income.
(3rd year. Salary=80k and no performance incentive. I brought in $1.4mm AFTER partners claimed over half of fees on my big cases.)
I see CJL offers an incentive+ base but I’m curious about that structure.
Any good or bad firm culture to speak of?
Is it impossible to actually earn a respectable incentive bonus?
Am I going to have some partner come cut me out of any cases where I might actually make a solid fee?

I give my cell phone to all clients routinely. However, there are always 1 to 2 clients who abuse this and it seems as soon as their cases are over I find a new one and it is making me rethink. I hate to do this because 98% do not abuse it and I like being connected to my people. Thoughts??

What’s the learning curve making the move from ID to PI? 6th year at an ID firm and just got an offer from a good PI firm, but just nervous bc I’ve never been on the plaintiffs end before.

What time do you all go to bed/wake up? Told a colleague I went to bed around 1am every night and they just about gasped (as in that’s so late)…now I’m self conscious?

Are there many legitimate ethical hurdles when switching from insurance defense to plaintiff’s work? I’ve always seen myself as a plaintiff’s lawyer, but ultimately took an ID job out of law school (better salary, no real opportunities at plaintiffs firms that I liked). I like what I do—so far—but I’m constantly thinking about whether the grass is greener.

What's your preference for plaintiff's side? Steady pay at approximately $120k with no bonuses, or a base salary of $70k plus a cut of what you close over a minimum threashold? Midwest-ish market. In both situations, you get a cut of what you bring in.

In an auto accident trial, can you inform the jury in any way that the at-fault driver had insurance? I have a hard time believing a jury would award 7-figure damages if they thought the little old lady defendant had to personally pay. I’m just starting to do PI on the side by myself at my firm, so this is probably a very dumb and obvious question.
