I’m a 3rd year Associate at a fairly large injury firm. In my 2nd year my individual fees were $550k, this year I’ll eclipse $800k and next year I have $1.5mm or more lined up. (That’s just cases I signed/closed myself)
I’m the sole associate in the office, and also handle most of the training/marketing/networking in my office. My salary isn’t 6 figures and no performance incentive. At what point is it fair to ask/is it unrealistic or unreasonable to ask for some small performance incentive?
Sounds to me like you're getting ripped off. You should be asking to be made partner, and if they won't do that, you should open your own firm. Imagine making that $1.5 million for yourself instead of giving it to someone else and making less than 6 figures.
1.5 mill in fees just in cases you brought to the firm? If so, you should easily be clearing 500k just in bonuses from the cases you brought in.
Yes. I sign up 2 or 3 commercial policy cases a year just because I know a lot of ppl who work in/around one of the large O&G producing regions. I appreciate the insight.
You should be taking those cases elsewhere. You could be making a hefty sum on referral fees alone. Or better still, open your own shop and with some case financing, you’ll be on your way.
By no performance incentive, do you mean you aren’t getting a percentage of the fee you bring in? If so, I don’t know how that happened but you should negotiate for a portion of the fee ASAP.
