First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

What are some good ways to get into management?
I am an individual contributor with ~8 years of experience and a strong track record. I enjoy my work, but am getting a little burnt out being directly customer facing. I also want a bigger seat at the table. I am not the most natural people manager, but want to push myself and take on a new challenge.
What can I do to position myself for this?

Detour or shortcut, my goal is to be in strategy consulting. Is it better to just wait for a couple more years and then go directly into strategy consulting? Are IT DD and ODD experience viewed favourably by strategy consultants?

I applied to one of the roles and after initial screening I happened to see in the website that there are no suitable openings for my profile.

I heard that the cool off period is six months. Does that apply to my situation because I didn't attend any interview.

Can I use referals to apply before 6 months? Or should I wait for 6 more months?

Heading into a panel interview this Monday. Around 4-5 folks on the call. What are some of the questions I should be asking by the end of the call to make sure I leave a lasting impression in front of the panel.

Anyone ever considered contractor gig in Meta/Facebook or any other big players in tech? I'm full-time in a smaller company and it's pretty stable. Wondering if the move could be worthwhile.
