Dear WFH folks. Anyone who thinks WFH is perfect needs to be locked in a room with no desks for a month with a spouse, kids, parents, roommates, no AC, and leaf blowers running nonstop.
Can we stop with the stupid battle already? Everyone’s situation is different. WFH is not going to be a permanent change in society, but on the other side businesses are going to be more tolerant of remote working and respectful of people having lives that take them out of the office one or more days a week.

Product Manager - I don't disagree that many industries are suited to operate WFH indefinitely and should consider adopting that model.
I will tell you that in public accounting, of which there are more than 650,000 licensed CPAs and likely 10 times that number of unlicensed staff, we typically follow an apprenticeship model where campus hires learn on the job.
Over the past year it's been clear that the new hires have not been getting the training and development that transforms them into capable professionals and the WFH model is largely to blame. The logistical problem of training subject matter that requires at least two screens, and more often three to four screens, remotely has barely been addressed, much less solved.
Even if we bring the new hires back into the office, they wouldn't learn anything if the journeyman and manager level accountants stuck to WFH. This is significant because as people advance in public accounting, they must increasingly rely on leveraging their staff. I haven't even talked about the client facing interpersonal skills, either.
This is just an example of an industry that isn't suited to WFH. Not all industries are like this, but WFH certainly isn't a one sized fits all model.
Agree with SA1. All problems can be fixed with better communications, relationship building, and actually caring about your team. If people want to be remote we should help them be successful while remote. And same if in office. When I was promoted to senior my goal was to help things run smoothly and train up my staff as I was trained up. And as a new manager, hoping to do the same for my senior and staff 👊 and I've been full time remote for over a year now!

Cool!
Are these TikTok ppl also sharing how they’re managing the the tax implications, security / client data protection measures, and visa authorizations that are required when working in these exotic foreign locations? ✨🙄

You guys are still arguing over this?
I don’t get paid well enough to pay for an Airbnb just to sit at a desk for 10 hours a day. Check your privilege.

Im all about that WFH life!! Oh wait.... 😭
Someone doesn't have kids. I've been wfh for 5 years already. The thing that changed with covid was schools being remote. Try working with fours little kids at home and then we'll talk.
PwC1 - yes my spouse works. She's a dental hygienist
Tik tok as a “reputable” source? Or any social media? No thanks
For 2 years prior to the pandemic, I worked remotely from home, and here's what I'll say:
WFH works for some who can handle it, and does not for others. If you can maintain the discipline needed to do it, it's a joy and something that really works. If you can't, then you'll suffer and your production will as well. I usually get to my client city once a month pre-pandemic, so I am still getting connected with clients and coworkers, but this situation works better for me personally, I can actually tell the difference. I do a lot of quantitative work so I need time alone with my head down, so that plays a role, too.
