MD -> P is a rarity. I’ve only seen it a handful of times and it’s almost because they were so good at their jobs that they maxing out the MD bonuses so it was beneficial for the firm to switch them to P.
Promotion? In this economy?
Like switching tracks from MD to Partner?
Sorry not switching tracks… just from junior partner to equity partner
At least in the us this isn’t titling we use. Senior managers/equivalents either go up as a non-equity md or as an equity partner/principal. Within both pmd paths there’s various ranks with more comp/units tied to responsibility/performance. As mentioned, very rare to switch between the two and highly discouraged … no matter what your sponsor/friend/recruiter tells you
