Banking hours are going to be worse, banking prestige will probably be better, Rx consultants focus on operations and financial management while Rx bankers focus on alternative capital structures. Not sure about progression at Alix, but I imagine Moelis will fall in line with typical banking (2-3 years AN, 3-5 ASSOC, and then a lot of variability at VP and after)
You should absolutely go to Moelis.
1) pay is better
2) learning experience will be better — Moelis is an EXCELLENT shop
3) you can always come to consulting later, and most firms jump at ex-IBers (it’s def easier to go one way vs the other)
4) at the VP level you will start to have more exposure to executives
5) the level of many of the technical skills to do the job you would learn at Alix will be also be taught and gained to a greater extent at Moelis
Cons:
1) learning curve will be steeper and more intense
2) WLB at least for the first few years will be worse —- however if you learn to work i-banking hours and intensity, then everything else will seem easy
In short, pay the dues now and have more options later.
In Rx consulting. Definitely go for Moelis
Interested as well. What kind of comp level should banking associate expect? Would be it worth for the increased in hours?
