I've had to move to be promoted. Most minorities not just us, often do so. They just don't talk about it as much. I have since learned to pay attention to the company's environment. If you don't see many folk who look like you above you, and even the tenure of the ones who do, take heed. MOST people regardless of race go to other companies for promotion and financial increase. Put yourself first, and strategize accordingly. If you have already trained multiple people to be above you, that should tell you that your company believes they can send people to you to be trained to be your boss. The good thing is that you do you job so well you can train others to be successful in your company. The bad unspoken thing is that you are likely doing your job so well that you are not easily replaced. I recommend that you stop training other folk and start applying for the next level job. Tell your leadership that you're interested in promotion and ask how to get there. If already have and even if you haven't, start networking and applying for that next level job internal and external to your company.
Thank you, we all got laid off. Two were promoted because the Director’s got laid off. They were already helping out by doing more of the work. The other two were by referrals. I’m definitely applying to roles at my current title & roles where my experience matches the title as well. I appreciate your feedback. Also, I was getting paid more than all of them. I had a job offer & they matched it. Every Director is not at Director salary. That I know.
