Do agencies prefer candidates with a mix of agency and in-house experience, or is a linear path better? I've never worked for an agency, and after 5 years in the field, I'm feeling really compelled to try out the agency life. What would your suggestions for me be?

I'd say a mix is valuable. It shows adaptability. The thing with agency experience is that it reflects speed and collaboration, while in-house roles show long-term strategic thinking.

It's not a bad thing to have experience at both. Not just for the sake of your resume, but for personal benefits to learn more about your own work preferences.

I’m reviewing my resume getting ready to start my job search and have a question for recruiters, hiring managers. I’m looking for a role brand-side not agency side. Specialist roles aside, such as digital, when you see someone describing themselves as a “generalist marketer” is this a resume you’d pass on? My past roles have been such that I do a lot of marketing projects, tasks etc. but I’m not a specialist. I’m worried if I use this terminology I won’t even be considered for a role. Thank you
