Mike Myers’ make up 😳
Why do we give awards to students for ideas that will never happen/are ridiculous? Netflix will never make an ad unit on their app, that would sell you Burger King burgers when burgers appear in movies or shows. That's just stupid. How did this win? What am I missing?

I have a personal policy in place. I just shut off my email and phone at night and on weekends.
We made a rule at my office that whenever someone works more than 20% overtime for 2 weeks in a row, their manager has to schedule a check in about work/life balance, stress and staffing needs. Great idea, but in practice I believe it has happened a grand total of zero times.
Yes, automatic notification from timesheets. So there’s an actual reason to do them (but of course, timesheets is the first thing to out the window when hours go up, so you need to remember)
McCann just added a policy to take off extra mental days if you need them. The creative team I’m working with just mandated that everyone take at least one a month. So now everyone gets 12 more days off a year, and leadership is making sure to do it too to lead by example. I think that’s a pretty nice step
My old job did offer some free therapy with just works. Unfortunately the job was the reason I needed it...
Not an official policy but I just shape the workload so they're generally done by around 530.
It's great. My employees are valued and love the job. Easy peasy vs turning over juniors every 18 months.
My agency blocked 12-1 on everyone’s calendars as mental health time and have actually stuck to it. We also make half hour meetings 25 min and full hour meetings 45 min so people have time between back to back meetings to take a breather. It’s been a refreshing change of pace coming from a churn and burn agency before this!
Sounds lovely! Wish we could get ours on board
Yes. They crow about work life balance as a selling point but the truth is that goes straight in the trash when work heats up.
Like in dating, beware the guy who opens with, "I'm a really nice guy..."
Just don't fall for the line, is what I'm saying.
I've noticed CFOs make the hiring, firing and staffing decisions yet aren't responsible for delivering the work. They don't seem to have compassion for the human element. They also aren't subject to layoffs, yet decide that fate for others. Instead they are rewarded with promotions for the bottom line, even when clients and revenue go out the door. Who knew Finance was the most stable job in advertising?
At some agencies they also have the best hours. Not CFO level but their staff.
I have in the past. Not my latest agencies. In the past it was proper management (who weren’t expected to have more than 50% workloads if managing a dept), realistic utilization targets, e.g. 80% max, and that manager having control over or co ownership of a P&L that tracked that stuff monthly so they could adjust.
SC2 - not many places do. It’s baffling. A manager should have time and control to manage. They are literally responsible for the health and wealth of their team. I find that the healthier people are the more effective and profitable they usually become. Also: you ask my team to do extra work, department heads battle it out. A manager needs to *know* they can take on extra work and meet outcome/output goals and if they think there’s a risk to that, they need the ability to speak up and proactively manage the situation with those requesting or needing the work. Absolutely none of this happens in any department in most agencies from what I’ve seen in the US (10+ years here).
Whatever your personal opinions are, agencies exist to make money. That bookkeepers are involved in the running of them is a natural outcome.
No policy at all. Just work over the clock, nights and weekends. Money talks.
*for the agency as I don’t get paid overtime.
