I’m a girl and would be surprised if half of us in this bowl weren’t women. Why would women not participate in political debate? As for BCG1’s position that women are somehow wiser, more rational, or quieter than men... how very Victorian of you. Women are no more temperate or virtuous than men. We just usually can’t beat you in a fist fight.
I think women tend to be more judicious in picking and choosing battles than men (this is obviously a huge generality with clear exceptions,... hello VP). Most of the arguments here are people shouting over each other and not really worth engaging. But interesting to see and remind me that even people in this industry can support things that don’t seem compatible with rational/ responsible thinking.
I post relatively consistently in this bowl and am a woman. That being said when the bowl devolves into nonsensical debate, I try to stop posting
Same as D1. When it turns into pointless shouting and arguing with people who are obviously so partisan they aren’t open to influence, I remember I have better things to do.
Conservative American woman of non European descent here. When the dialog devolves into all women should think and vote a certain way...I’m out.
Yes. Sooo Victorian. Not at all based on years of experience working with and managing both sexes and witnessing first hand the differences in behavior
Same as D1^. I comment on threads as often as possible; however I feel the content goes downhill and becomes aggressive quite quickly so I typically only reply once before feeling like any additional comments would simply be lost in the 'debate'. Sadly the posts and comments to this political bowl make me believe that it is extremely difficult to express your opposing views openly and have a meaningful thought provoking debate with people from the other side, regardless of whether you're views are conservative or liberal leaning. We are at time where people are steadfast in the 'tribal' beliefs and swaying members to either side is extremely difficult and viewed by some as even traitorous.
Hard to engage in nonhealthy forms of debate.
Lady, and fairly active when I have down time.
Though there are some judgemental AF people in this bowl. So after any ignorant convo (racist, misogynistic, etc.) I take leave for a bit for my own sanity.
@PWC1 - speak for yourself on the first fight part. 😉
^ Why I used the word “usually”. You go girl.
I am woman hear me roar, something something from before.
OP - Sorry I'm rereading the OP, specifically 'I get the sense men from both sides are speaking for you'. To be clear, no person, male or female, speaks for me on this political thread.
I would not assume that anyone's post speaks for anyone but the poster themselves. I also do not read posts as male or female, although one may make assumptions based on language the poster uses.
If I'm not posting or commenting it's because I choose not to which may be for a variety of reasons, such as waste of energy based on the thread's content or choose to take it to the women's bowl, but has never been because I did not feel comfortable, supported by men or fearful of a negative reaction. Literally never even crossed my mind what a man may think lol.
Thanks for your inputs. When it is not non-sensical dialog, do you all believe your point of view is being heard. For many women issues, it is heard to discern if men are distorting or presenting a view that they do not fully understand in their posts.
