I like people like this. They make me feel so much more comfortable because they feel like real people rather than some corporate caricature.

What does one thing have to do with the other?
OP I grew up poor as well and struggle with the same.
I'm pretty casual and candid in my day to day. It's done well for me.
That said I'm very good at what I do and it's all backed up by strong results.
It's a people business so being perceived as honest can take you far if you do it right.
I read the book Class by Paul Fussell and felt like it explained so much ... some of the specific references to fashion etc are a little outdated but the underlying ideas were painfully relatable. I don’t know so much about filter, for me it’s more that I find the language of business to be so middle class and passive aggressive. My working class side often eye rolls at pretense, is unimpressed with others’ status and wants to be aggressive when passiveness or passive aggression is expected.
ACD2 nailed it! I’m very direct and that passive aggressive middle class approach seems so alien.
Well, there’s casual, and there’s inconsiderate or rude. It’s pretty easy to be casual without being insensitive. And can you give us an example of your “filter less” speech? I don’t believe in corporate speak bullshit either and tend to be pretty casual, too, but as an adult and a professional, you should be able to communicate without worrying if you’re constantly almost offending people.
Code switch. I talk like I’m rich.
Same for me but it seems to work very well in my favor as long as I’m not being offensive or saying something that’s a micro aggression
I've never heard of being raised in a poor area as contributing to "not having a filter". What does that mean? Are you rude or do you insult people or something? Sorry just really trying to understand what you mean. How is this a behavior that can't be recognized, changed, stopped in its tracks etc? I'm also from a relatively poor area, according to the statistics, and am BIPOC that but actually makes me MORE mindful of being as professional as possible. Probably because I can't get away with things that white men seem to be able to get away with.
I like people who have less of a filter. They’re usually more human, honest and funnier than people who watch every word.
Can you give examples?
