On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most, how pissed would you be if you were a supervisor and you had a new direct report on your team with a higher salary than you? The years of experience are the same, but you have 3 designations (they have 0), you have 3 licenses (they have just 2), they have little to no experience with technical complex claims (you have hundreds), and you have 3 years in management (they have 0).

Wouldn’t be pissed. Would use it as a negotiating point to leverage higher pay at a competitor and then come back to my management with the offer to see if they’d give me more. Otherwise it’s time to jump ship.

So I did say something. Market adjustment was requested, but they have no idea how much or how soon it will be - 2 days, 2 weeks, 6 months, who knows.

I would feel like Michael Scott!

I would not know how to negotiate with salaries. I’ve never done it before except maybe once. I was in the IB sales team for a year and then I was given an opportunity to move into chat sales. We don’t make any commission anymore and just a set salary but it doesn’t matter what we sell whereas before we had qouta’s to hit every month. Initially, they gave us a trial run for 90 days and during the interim they would average our last 3 commission checks and pay us out accordingly. I was a top performer so my average commission was $5k to $8k but I had to sell over 100 items. When the manager of the chat team decided they wanted to keep me they told me that our salary would include the average of our commissions. After doing the math I was making over $30/hr including my salary so when they told me that they were only paying me $25/hr I brought it up to their attention and they increased it to $30/hr. I don’t know what others are getting paid but I was ok with that. It wasn’t really a convo of “give me or I won’t transfer permanently.” I transferred because I didn’t want to have a quota every month while still being able to keep my job and stay for a long time. We have metrics but it’s not really that big of a deal. Before if you didn’t hit quota, you got written up. Thankfully, I never got written up and I don’t want to. Chat sales is a new department so most of my days is spent on me waiting for chats to come in while watching YT. Lol. I can’t complain but I would not know how to negotiate my salary other than what I did. I just brought it up once and they promoted me to Senior Chat Sales Agent and paid me the extra money and that was that.

Considering taking a position with a small-cap in the US trying to build their legal department. The title is standard “counsel” although the work would be with the senior leadership team and reporting to the GC in Europe. How reasonable is it to ask for a bump in title - Senior counsel or Head of Legal, US? If it matters, I am a 6th year and have been told that I will be expected to hire a junior or paralegal as we build up.

Looking for some advice on a couple of offers I have.

The first offer is for an Account Executive position at a smaller company with a base of $50k and another $20k in OTE.

The second offer is for a BDR position at a larger and faster growing company with a base of $60k and another $20k in OTE. Also some stock options but they aren’t public yet.

I have 2 YOE as a BDR and think I could succeed in either position. Both have hybrid work set ups. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated! Thanks.
