I'd rather earn and use my miles to go see something other than the lower 48 and parts of the Caribbean.
Their rewards program is better only if you are an extremely frequent domestic US traveler that often travels with a companion and doesn't mind indirect routes. Sure, Companion Pass technically has a high value if you actually are in a situation where you can use it often, but there are way better programs out there for those that prefer international and luxury travel.
I for one milked my MilagePlus account for the equivalent of $60k in business and first class travel last year on trips to three continents. SWA can't even remotely come close to providing those kinds of experiences, which is why I don't fly SWA.
Companion pass isn’t really attractive for us consultants since we typically alt travel and are not leaving from the same airport as our SO’s
I fly southwest, and have paired it with an Amex platinum to pay for the flights to build up points to fly international. Southwest has gotten me to my clients direct for the past two years as I got tired of connecting on delta
Used to but switched to United based on available times. Happier at United now with upgrades as well as international travel. If only redeeming domestically though, then SWA is by far #1
I can understand if flying business or first is a priority for reward travel (previously flew AA), but regarding A1s point, if you have the SW credit card you can redeem points for international flights on other airlines and I think you would still accumulate points quicker (previous experience redeeming AA points for vacation was infuriating as there were never any decent flights when I actually wanted to travel). Just seems like the all in features of the Rapid Rewards program make it much more attractive. I do miss waiting in lounges though...
