I always assumed it was to torture us so that we looked forward more to starting with the kids.
I wonder why? It’s unfair. That’ll bring a different taste to our summer break.
The school where my SIL teaches completes all of their PD days before school starts, which probably ends up being 2 or 2.5 weeks total.
Rising Star
We only have 1 day before kids come. The part that stinks is that most of us are there for 2 weeks before setting up classrooms, planning, prepping, and reading IEP’s, making data sheets and student resources, etc. on our own time for free. The one day of meetings and mandates trainings gives us no time to prepare.
You’re right. That is true. I love elementary and worked in elementary most of my 27 years. You are completely right. And all the 504s and medical plans that parents have in elementary. Great point!
We go back 3 days before the students come. All PD days. What’s going on for 2.5 weeks before ?
I teach at a French school. One day of meetings only !
I'm back 4 weeks before school starts and 2 of those weeks were 10 1/2 hour days, so we can have Fridays off, because our district offices are closed on Friday during the Summer.
4 weeks ? Sad.
You're not alone. The school year seems to start earlier and earlier each year. The summer should be the entire one for all districts. We should all go back the last week of August, and the kids begin after labor day.
