I just accepted a job at USPS. As a CCPTF you get a lot of hours, decent pay and great benefits! And tons of paid training!
I haven't heard anything regarding state, county, or local cuts. If anything, I would expect hiring to increase to fill gaps left by a diminished federal government.
If they are hiring apply. It's no different than any other job. Any company could close up at any time. No job is guaranteed forever. Don't stress over stuff that the news shoves down your throat daily. It's a job. There are no guarantees
Frankly, this is the way everyone should be thinking about this. Look to the states, if you're thinking of government-no federal job, and no job with a government contractor, is as safe. That is of course the point - to not only "shrink government" by via haphazard & illegal firings, but by using that haphazardness to discourage the filling of open positions that remain. It's ok to apply, but for the next 4 years, if you're lucky enough to have a choice, the strategy has to be to prefer the gig w/as little dependence as possible on gov't contracts and the whims of this co-presidency. Will this dynamic make services people rely on, which are already often the subject of complaints, even less reliable? Yes -and again, it's all by design.
All Cities and counties have 5 year budgets ...look them up ...a question about funding for the posion could be asked in the interview ...i always do
