If it’s not in the lease as their responsibility, it’s probably on you. Write your next lease to cover it as their responsibility. Many leases state that the first 60 days the landlord covers it and after that, it’s the tenant. This seems fair given that pest issues in the first two months are probably residual while after that is likely related to the tenant.
Good question. Is this a standalone home? I would say it would be your responsibility.
I’ve rented from companies that do it both ways. As a landlord, I would prefer to be responsible to ensure it actually gets done.
If you want it handled properly, pay for it yourself.

Depends on the location.
I cover pest control because I own a house in a desert state where the “pests” scare the shit out of me. Costs me around $100 per quarter for peace of mind.
In a non venomous pest location, I wouldn’t cover it. I don’t even pay for pest control at my house in a non desert state.

I personally would want this done myself. Pests will impact your ability to rent it in the future. Better to pay up and do it right.
If you really want your tenants to take care of it, consult a RE lawyer to check your state’s and local municipalities laws, and if allowed, put it in the lease that it’s the tenants responsibility.
You can’t trust the tenant to actually do it. For the cheap protection of your own property, you should do it.
First, you paid too much to eradicate the mice. If you have a home warranty policy, pest control is generally covered. Otherwise, it’s a small quarterly expense. Shouldn’t be more than $100/qrtr. I pay $75/qrtr in an HCOL. I cover outside pest control for my properties and tenants cover inside if they want it. I spell this out in the rental agreement.
Landlord. Go ahead and do it. That steep price was likely doing things like sealing holes and such

Hire routine pest control for insects as well
