I put 2 percent of my pay into a watch account. That’s the only money that can be used for watches.

Seems like our Investment Manager needs a little nudge to make a risky decision.
Buy what you really want. The 2-3k watch may or may not fully scratch the itch, then you’ll just have to save another 15-25k!

Whatever the wife will tolerate.
No rule. I made some big investments though and am waiting for a milestone for the next one.
Can I hide it from my wife.
Buying watches are quite low on the priorities list for me, actually, it’s not even on it. Over the years, a lot of those priorities have been taken cared of, so I started to treat myself a bit with this expensive hobby. I usually fund my purchases with just the interests and dividends from my investment portfolio.
No ground rules, per se, but I do ensure to take care of priorities first. School expenses and saving for a bigger house are top of the list right now, so the watch purchase I was thinking about last year has been put on hold
Milestone and /or if I see a great deal (never ever as an investment piece). We all work hard and every now and then, we should treat ourselves. For a watch enthusiast like me, purchase within reason because if you're eventually going to get it, then get it now and enjoy it now. Alittle debt never hurt anyone who's financially astute. Sure we can use those funds ($10k,20k,$30k+) for investments but gotta have abit of fun, right? That's my attitude and it works for me. Plus not having kids makes my decision abit easier. 😜
After several miscarriages and medically complicated deliveries, I was very happy to get my wife something special for bringing our kids into the world 🤷♂️

I wish it worked like that
Whe I get my bonus I get one, I may not this year and just invest
There’s never a perfect answer for this one. But i agree with the above - use the money for priorities / real life stuff and then if you’re still flushed with cash, and you really wouldn’t notice spending $2-15k (depending on the watch) then you’re probably in an OK place to pull the trigger.
