Idk how much my dad makes because he owns a small business so it’s variable, but he does well enough I’m assuming. I know how much my friends make because we’re open with each other about finances. White people consider it taboo to talk about money but for us Indian folks we’re very open about it. Helps us learn from one another

I know what my best friend makes only bc she brought it up to me while she’s been job searching. I never would have asked her though - it’s just weird. She knows how much I make, but she was curious about my title/YOE and salary. She was surprised.

My neighbor knows how much I make

Not really, I don’t care
I know how much my parent has in the bank and my sibling’s net worth.
But other family and friends? Nope. But not because it’s taboo to ask. I just don’t care to know. Unless we work in the same industry and want to share for the sake of salary transparency, to make sure we’re being paid fairly... why would I care?

VP1, it would also seem like you are sizing someone up. Comparison is an evil and humans compare a lot so that would be the assumption, thus making it weird

I know how much my ex makes because I helped him negotiate his salary. I really shoulda got a kickback lol

I know how much my sister and my mom make… but no idea about anyone else. I try to mind my business, so I don’t ask.
Chief
I only know if they’ve told me.
I don’t seek out the information
Ironically not family, just friends that have brought it up in conversation.
I know how much my sister and BIL make through deduction because they are a fed and soldier, respectively, and I know those pay grades.
I have a general sense of what my dad made before retirement and roughly what they make in retirement, but don't know the particulars.
No clue what my non-military/non-fed friends make and don't care. I don't think it's taboo to ask, per se, I just really don't care how much anyone makes. Likewise, I don't go volunteering my comp, but I will answer if someone I know asks it.
Nope. I'm an open advocate for comp transparency.

I just make up a ridiculous and random number if someone asks: $17 per month.
I do. I also tend to know their debt and savings too. I am a “fixer” so at some point someone needs me to help them get it together
I tend to be pretty open about it myself but I legit just ask. By default I know all of my close friends salaries but the debt is usually something that I would ask if it comes up

Too taboo to talk about

I only know what people choose to share and I’ve shared my salary if asked but this isn’t information I’d automatically volunteer. It’s not important to me to talk about salary with friends and family.
I know what my friends make, and I have an idea of what my siblings make. My siblings and parents have no idea how much money I make.

I know how much my siblings make down to after tax😅 we're all super close and very transparent about money. When I get an offer I always run it by them too
I know what my siblings and parents make. Friends, not so much. Except of course the two friends that once reported to me lowland a few former coworkers, I know their new salaries as well
After getting my first job out of college and just that whole transition period, I’ve never asked what my friends or family makes.
If I am job hunting and I have a friend or family in a similar field, I will pick their brain. I might not ask directly how much they make, I would ask more so what is a good salary range to ask for based on the position I’m going for. Pretty much what most people do on here. Otherwise it’s none of my business and I don’t care.
Its Don't ask, don’t tell for me

Nope. Taboo.

No and I don't ask. I don't think it is a taboo but I don't want to upset myself or others 😆
I know my parents' net worth approximately I think.
