play to lose
Play to win. It’s one of the first dynamics in magic the gathering that separates fine players from good players. And as we all know, magic the gathering is a good allegory for life itself

Neither. Everything is a learning experience.
Both are self-focused. That is the opposite of how you develop a great relationship. You play to have a great relationship based on complete trust, where your partners needs are more important than yours. The greatest of that relationship comes back to you 10 fold. I wish I could inject some of that into young couples. The divorce rate would drop by 75%.
I play to win
I think a true "play to win" mentality requires both.
Not every play can be a QB blitz or touchdown pass. Sometimes you're looking to get that next down, or maybe just get into a position where you can get your next down on the next play, or make it to field goal range. Sometimes just running the clock is the best play to make.

Professionally - play to win
Personally - play so we both win as much as possible but at minimum try not to lose
