Today I read the op-ed in LA Weekly by the Preux and Proper owner, Josh Kopel. When this group started, it was a dream of mine to meet you while enjoying a drink or a meal and build a community of people who enjoy the city and wanted to explore its food. It’s surreal to think that we have been in lockdown for this long. I know many restaurants may be struggling and if you have a favorite, a local gem, please share with us.

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

I got that coveted big law job.

But I would much rather want a family of my own and someone to hug and kiss, something I feel really sad about around christmas.

Never had much contact with my dad, and two years ago, I broke off contact with my mother because I realized that she had been a manipulative narcissist my entire childhood.

Working 50-60h weeks on average doesn’t help your dating life though, and who would want to date someone with no family anyway

Growing up was rough. On my 8th birthday my dad had an accident that led to this death a few days later. He was a good man who took care of us all (I had 3 siblings now 2; lost 1 few years ago). I'm in a good place in life right now I only find myself in the last 5years shedding a tear once a while when I'm alone. It startles me because I was a tough kid who didn't cry and just soaked it all in and rolled with it. I'm almost 40 and can't explain what's happening with these tears.

Gift giving help: every year around this time my husband brings up his Jan bday and basically demands I spend a lot of $ on him. I find this stressful. My VP asked my fellow team member to take on a task simply because of her race to help them land a grant renewal. We’re both women of color but since I didn’t match the target audience I was not asked even though the task is on a project I am overseeing.
