Moving to new a job is usually the only way to ensure getting a raise in salary. New employees often get better pay than long-term employees, that's how companies attract new talent. The phenomenon actually has a name, wage inversion.
This is unfortunately very true. Unless you’re getting a promo, raises in current role are often so limited. This is why so many people left jobs in the hay day of 2021-22.
In my experience it does give you a boost. As long as you don’t hop too often I don’t think it’s detrimental to your career. Just make sure you have some tenure (at least a couple years) at some point on your resume.
