Do you think company benefits matter way more than we admit? Like, would you take a slightly lower salary if the perks were actually good—healthcare, real PTO, maybe even a decent 401k match or does it all come down to the paycheck for you?

Absolutely. As somebody who has chronic health issues, my healthcare is really important. I left my last job because every year, they kept chipping away at what they covered. I would take a lower salary just to have my healthcare covered, because health insurance costs can run into the tens of thousands per year if you aren't properly covered.

Yup I have debilitating migraines I wouldn’t trade where I work for anything because I’m so advocated for and valued

If the healthcare perks saves you real money every year, then a lower salary might still equal a better overall compensation

like

Exactly!

I wouldn't say that. Everything you've mentioned should factor into deciding whether to accept an offer or not. If you don't include those perks in your comp evaluation, you're missing a huge piece of the puzzle.

Absolutely and those who say it’s all about the dollar are bitter liars.

Absolutely. Just one example, the 7% 401k match we have has allowed me to grow my 401k so much compared to my last company

Brand new into my career and I’m trying to juggle wanting to max my 401k, Roth IRA, and HSA, while also saving for a down payment on a house! Love how BS credit score is. Got my score up to 800 last month only to go on vacation so my credit utilization went up to 8% due to the increased spending and my score dropped 35 points because I didn’t immediately pay the balance after charging the purchases. I always pay my balance in full each month and have never missed a payment, how is 8% credit utilization determined to be that big of a risk that my score got immediately wrecked, I don’t understand

I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.
