If reports are correct, the biggest push back to this is from Nissan itself. Even in a post merger world they want to still operate "business as usual" despite running their company into the ground over the past decade plus with that strategy.
If this merger goes through, which I've got major doubts that it ever will, especially since allegedly the Japanese government is the largest proponent of the merger. Its in Hondas best interest to minimize their exposure by putting a substantial amount of Nissans choices under Honda management.
Honda needs to bring back the GT-R. If they do that and bring back the older style, best move.
Let’s get a R36 please
Honda managing Nissan’s portfolio sounds like a way to streamline and simplify, especially in today’s competitive car market. I agree that Nissan’s large off-road SUVs could stay true to their roots, but everything else might need a fresh perspective. As long as Honda doesn’t try to force too many of its models onto Nissan’s existing fan base, this could be a win-win.
I was thinking more of Sears and Kmart
