Do you think intimidating managers are more effective than the calm, supportive ones? I feel it can go both ways. Some people only work under pressure, while others thrive in a stress-free environment. Personally, I do better with kind, understanding managers. Intimidation lowers my confidence and motivation. It really depends on the individual and the workplace culture. What kind of management style works best for you?

Been with Big Four advisory (GRC) for 10 years. Really tired of meaningless “consulting” and commoditized implementations. Recently been through a rough job search and finally landed an offer with a mid size bank in their risk practice. People say that the culture there is quite political and bitter but I’ll learn a heck lot and get a new opening on my resume. Salary is the same. The other option is to take a consulting job that pays me 50k more but do the same work! Thoughts? Thanks!

Any advice for how to decline travel? Partner is pushing for us to go but there is a delta variant and I want to be able to spend time with my family without worrying I’ll infect them. The team culture is quite toxic (these people berate each other daily) so I feel uncomfortable speaking up, but I really don’t see a good reason for going there to do work I can do from home.

Any advice on how to tastefully tell your manager that you no longer want to be a charge nurse anymore? For us being in charge is having full assignment 3p-7p & being responsible for assigning pts , communicating w/ supervisor about various issues, making the assignment for next shift, and a mini report about each pt for the next charge. Once when I was waiting tables, I had a guy pay me cash. The change was 45 cents, which I didn't give back to him because like who wants that. He then asked where the change was, and when I explained that I didn't give back the loose change, he made a big stink about how dollars and cents matter and didn't leave me a tip. He was a republican staffer on capitol hill.
