Do you use a professional to do your taxes, or still handle them yourself? I’ve always done mine on my own, but as they’ve gotten more complicated, I’ve started thinking about having someone else to do it. I was quoted $800-900 though, and that feels hard to swallow. At the same time, maybe I’m underestimating the value and the market? What do you all do, and how did you decide it was worth the cost?

We've been using the same accountant for 6 years. It costs $750 for my wife and I to joint file. Worth every penny.

That’s helpful context. Since I’m filing single, $800–900 feels a bit steep compared to $750 for joint. Maybe my situation is more complex than I realized, or maybe I just need to shop around a bit. It’s good to know that’s roughly the range though.

That seems like a high amount. I have somebody do my taxes because I have a consulting business on the side and I don't think I've ever paid more than $500. Maybe you should shop around a little bit? It's definitely worth it to me but I would probably not want to spend that much.

That’s really helpful to hear. If you’re paying under $500 even with a side business, then $800–900 for me filing single does feel high. I do have rental properties. I might need to shop around a bit before deciding. I do like the idea of having it off my plate, just not at any price.

I pay that much for my business tax returns. Are yours complex filings?

I didn't think mine was that complex but maybe I underestimated my situation.

Been doing it myself since 2007 using free online software ...I have simple taxes - W2, interest & investment income, typical deductions. Nothing complicated

W2 income so do it myself. I think it’s really straightforward. Having a business could change things tho

I paid $1k last year

I thought it was pretty expensive given I don’t have a complex situation but my CPA did need to look back one year so that may have impacted the price. I

I do them myself to prove I know what’s happening and then plug into turbo tax, super cheap.

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.

Is IB worth the sacrifice of WLB? Obvious pay is really good but are the prestige and pay worth it if you’re planning on only doing it for a couple years?

Currently working at an IRA with great WLB. Honestly I love my job, the firm, and people I work with.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.
