Some more info that I’ve found (not sure about source and whether accurate or not):
Second Round H-1B Lottery Expected to Occur This Week?
Employers will likely get a second chance to retain employees who were not originally selected in the FY 2021 H-1B lottery (that allows H-1B workers to start working this fiscal year as of October 2020). It appears USCIS may not have selected sufficient “winners” from its prior lottery as the agency only received approximately 65,000 H-1B cap cases this year. The regulations provide for issuance of 85,000 cap-subject cases annually. Accordingly, USCIS must accept approximately 20,000 new H-1B cases. USCIS will likely conduct a second lottery for H-1B FY 2021 starting as soon as this week. There will likely be a new 90-day filing period from August 17 to November 16, 2020. Stay tuned for more information.
I believe they weeded out the duplicates, the incorrect ones or fraud ones along with the Denials. The number of approvals may be significantly lower than 65K for them to reopen this.
Huh? What does this even mean
Yes something new for us. Have had a client selected in the added lottery opportunity.
It seems that there won’t need for applicants to re-register, but USCIS will just go further down the list of the registered applicants who were not selected back in March.
It’s only for previously submitted applications
My lawyer predicted this!
So there chance if my application was denied in March?
They are granting slots to those not selected. Best of luck to you. My guess is by now you will know if they selected you.
The lottery was conducted for applications which were in submitted statys after the April lottery. USCIS dropped a mail to attorneys to check the application which were in Submitted status.
Yes 2nd round of lottery selections. And yes USCIS has started sending communications out
I got selected in the second round!! I already left the country though because my OPT expired. What is the process of applying from outside the US given the new restrictions trump put in place?
Plenty of people apply for H1B outside the country! (Eg indian bodyshops). However you definitely need an employer sponsor. C2 if you left your company/sponsor it would be difficult to continue the filing process even if you won the lottery
