The best are planned, not staged. Enjoy the intimacy of the moment. Because a moment comes and goes forever.
That's definitely true. I'd rather see her genuine reaction for me to experience than something "insta-perfect" for the gramtown goobers to experience.
People perform these old-fashioned and cliched traditions and readings because a tried-and-true template is easy to fill in or outsource amidst the craziness of planning the rest. The result is something that doesn't feel authentic to the couple and that guests have seen ad nauseum. Some couples overcompensate for that by staging gimmicks or over-the-top entertainment in an effort to be unique, fun, and one-up someone else's wedding. Instagram also makes it easier to find these crazy ideas that of course look amazing and fun because of how staged they are, and everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon to look cool.
What do you want PM? An unplanned wedding? That's gonna look very different 😂
I don’t anymore, i’ve turned down every wedding invite or wedding related invite for the past 2 years now
y'all know what OP means, the proposed-to lady is in a white dress with white fingernails, too perfect of a backdrop and the cameraman gets a nice close up of the "surprise"

Oh I see now. That has nothing to do with me.
I cry like a wee bebe. 🥹

Let me guess, you are single
lol nobody wants random Brady bunch type photos. People pose because they paid a lot of money for it and the photographer knows what angles and poses work. People mostly do it for themselves to have nice pictures to reflect on.
I mean by definition it’s planned. You are just being a hater.
Yes I cringe very hard because we all get sucked into the social media black hole of doing it for the likes and validation. Why else do people pay $$$$$ for photo and video because let’s face it no one cares about their own photos and videos that much when it really comes down to it aside from the occasional nostalgia fueled deep dive.
I agree there is value in cherished personal memories and special artwork for one’s collection. I don’t diminish that talent. Your daughter is in demand likely bc she has a good eye and is social media savvy. Good on your daughter for capitalizing on it but make no mistake that her business is driven by brides wanting to have that social media moment and receive validation of likes and comments on their beautiful photos. If photos were solely for personal memories you would not need photographers today. We all have iPhones that are more than suitable for your general photo memories.

It is the age of performing for others.

No. What’s an example of a staged/performative proposal or wedding?
I think this link is right. Brittany (my daughter) & Robert in 2014. I can’t even watch it (M63) right now because I know I’ll cry like a baby. Sorry you’re jaded so young. :-(

That’s from a public site. I post some family stuff from time to time - things she has on IG and elsewhere because she’s a photographer. Not that I really need to explain.

I get what you mean. Some seem very transactional. Like they did it cuz it’s the expected path. Typically ppl who get engaged exactly after 1 year of dating.
I attended the most drawn out sociopathic wedding recently. The whole thing was a show boat to prove his worth to his parents in front of their friends and family. The groom gave about 6 speeches throughout the course of 3 days. Had 4 different themed events. Nothing genuine about it — just came off as a big materialistic competition. I hate that guy for my friend. Some of his speeches were a dig on his partners family about her not having a great childhood until she met him. Yuck.
